Mode en France History of Fashion sequence

I like the blonde.

New Muse: Joanna Newsom

We here at the AsA experiment collect muses like pebbles in our pockets. Joanna Newsom has just been added to the list and I swear her songs sound like AsA party dresses being audibly spun, cut, and sewn. I just made a layered metallic party dress to her song "Cosmia" from Ys.

The Best Present

Phil got me the loveliest book for the holidays. It contains pictures from the Wiener Werkstatte textile company. It had its heyday in the early 1900's with the Art Nouveau craze in Vienna and operated as an artistic co-op. It collapsed due to internal financial troubles in the 30's and the author of this book pieced together the scattered books and samples. I'm in love.

Happy Holidays!

We hope everyone is having a warm and blessed winter season!

With the continuously sparse selection of unsold items on our site, I thought I would alert those of you with Christmas money burning holes in your pockets that AsA can also be found on etsy listed by one of our retailers, Nonpareil.

How exciting

Lexi from Pluckyfluff has asked AsA to design garments to go with her beautiful creations for the photographs in her next book. How exciting! Her yarns are unbelievably beautiful and unique.

Pattern Love

Florence Print

Orange Groove Print

Our friend and photographer Matt has a new site, Retro Deko showcasing his many design skills and pattern love. These are some of my fav's. The stretched patterns are perfect for us renters who wish they could plaster their walls with wallpaper, but can't. The owl prints are adorable, too. *swoon*

Trade

Blogger has been my arch nemesis for the last few days! It turned on me suddenly and viciously and it took a very patient husband over an hour to coax it back to normal. Whew. This means I've been storing up postings and am staying awake past me bedtime to get my fix. The dress below was one of my fav's and I traded it at a recent show for the painting shown above. The artist is named Sita Rupe and she uses vintage wallpapers and patterns behind her own silkscreened images. She had so many gorgeous ones to choose from, but I had to have the birds.

New Beginnings

Gentle readers, we've been in hiding! We know! I just finished finals week and I can see straight again. Julie just pulled off another successful and gorgeous Hand Born. Now we might start sewing again. Imagine! There will even be an update this weekend with tons of new AsA goodies just in time for the holidays. I couldn't resist a sneak peak, though.

Until then, everyone should check out the new site from our kindred spirit and customer extraordinaire up North, Michele. She has a new line of yummy skin care products, Eva's Essentials:
