Thursday, August 31, 2006Jewelry!![]() ![]() ![]() Finally, jewelry has been added to the Armour sans Anguish selection on our webshop! As with all of our items, these baubles are constructed from recycled materials. Wednesday, August 23, 2006Found Photos![]() ![]() ![]() I'm obsessed with this website, Look At Me. It is a collection of found photographs from all over the world. Julie and I have used some of them in graphic design projects in the past and I did a series of silkscreened tops using found vintage fancy school portraits. I think of them as little orphan photographs that need to be loved. Love them!
An Exercise in Restraint and Sustainability![]() ![]() ![]() I decided awhile ago that I needed new dishes and instead of buying an overpriced set of new, plain white plates, I decided to slowly collect vintage dishware. This is difficult for a couple of reasons: first, I'd rather just be done with it (though the thrill of the hunt is a bonus), and second, it's hard not to snatch up every plate or mug that speaks to me. I'm trying to be pickier with my selections. This is the new set in progress. I'm in love with the orange mug.
New Items Coming Soon to Rearview MirrorWe just sent off a package of lovelies to miss Laura Lee of Rearview Mirror in Cape Cod. She sent me some pictures of her adorable salon/boutique a few months ago and I almost keeled over in a fit of swoon. Ain't it perdy? Thursday, August 17, 2006New Items Coming soon to BTC Elements![]() Two new early Fall sweaters coming soon to BTC Elements. While you're there, check out this beautiful organic cotton dress.
Wednesday, August 16, 2006Twinkly Yarn![]() Am I just out of the loop (pun absolutely intended) or is it news that Twinkle sells the yarn they use to create their scrumptious knits? I must admit that I'm more prone to buying old sweaters and unraveling them, but this stuff looks so yummy I may have to indulge. Monday, August 07, 2006After reading Joy's ode to inspirational fashion photography, I've been moved to share some of my own photographic obsessions from sites I visit so often it has become bona vide internet stalking. Being a small, independent operation we've had to come up with creative ways to get cool pictures taken for free. Luckily, we happen to have a veritable slew of talented folks at our fingertips. There's Matt, Allen, and Phil who take fabulous pictures for us, and the proffessional photograher, Aaron Draper, who also blessed us with a day of photo goodness at his huge studio in Modesto. We're also lucky enough to have gobs of gorgeous friends who put up with our insane number of photoshoots and model for us despite the hot or cold weather and giggling which always ensues.
We made a promise early on to try to represent our garments in photos that reflect our fashion philosphy: we want real-looking girls in real settings having fun. No heroine chic for us. Lately I've been trying to come up with new ideas for settings and styling and this is a sampling of my newest obsessions: greys, masks and hats, and trying to do indoor shoots. Saturday, August 05, 2006Second Life for Satin and Bows![]() I've been coming across an inordinate amount of old prom dresses lately and want desperately to have some kind of "method" for repurposing them. I need look no further. I found designer Louis de Gama out of Prague and his collections include this sweet number. Some of his pieces don't really tug at my heart strings, but I'm having a love affair with this one. He doesn't seem to be repurposing found fabrics/garments, but doesn't this translate well into a reworked prom dress? I'm running with it.
