An Exercise in Restraint and Sustainability

I decided awhile ago that I needed new dishes and instead of buying an overpriced set of new, plain white plates, I decided to slowly collect vintage dishware. This is difficult for a couple of reasons: first, I'd rather just be done with it (though the thrill of the hunt is a bonus), and second, it's hard not to snatch up every plate or mug that speaks to me. I'm trying to be pickier with my selections. This is the new set in progress. I'm in love with the orange mug.

When we had a house fire a few years ago that destroyed most of the china I had from my great grandmother I was pretty sad at first. I couldn't afford to get replacements from those places that find old patterns for you.
So I decided to do exactly what you decided to do! I haven't actually bought any pieces yet. I told myself I'd buy something from every new place I visit but I keep forgetting to...anyway, I love the ones you have so far!
How sad! I'm glad you've found a cool way to replace your grandmother's china! This way each piece still has a story and history--even if it isn't our own!
great idea! very interesting colorful mix!
